Question #1 for Tyler: What advice would you give for climbing the ladder within your industry?
Don’t waste time looking for the next job; doing so negatively impacts your performance within your current job. Fully dedicating yourself to your current job and taking on additional responsibilities will get you further in life then checking the job boards on a daily basis. At the end it all boils down to “who knows you.” Your network will come calling for that promotion or raise, but remember it is all contingent on what you have to offer. The last thing I’ll leave you with needs to be engrained in your values: “Leave the place better than you found it.”
Question #2 for Tyler: What advice would you give to current students who want to work in the sport business industry?
Learn to take initiative, as that is what truly stands out to people in hiring positions. Don’t wait to have your hand held and be offered direction, but rather create your own path and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. You want to make yourself an indispensable part of any organization you work for, so when other opportunities arise people not only outside your organization but within it truly realize what talent you bring to the table.
