Question #1 for Mark: In terms of developing skill sets and preparing for a job, what advice do you have for current students interested working in Sales?
Network, network, network. It is important to gain experience and develop skill sets while in school, but the most important piece of advice while preparing for a job is to network. While at UCF you have so many resources at your disposal, it is key you take full advantage of them. Volunteer any chance you get, go to career related events on campus and in return maximize your network. This will lead to more opportunities especially if you are interested in working in sales. On top of the initial conversation, make sure you continue to communicate by following up with the individual.
Question #2 for Mark: Can you elaborate on one topic that you have carried with you from the minor into your current position with BodyArmor?
I learned numerous topics over the three-year span that I was part of the Sport Business Minor at UCF. Taking The Role of Business Entrepreneurship in Sport and Entertainment class taught by Doc Harrison really stuck out to me. I remember reading the Russell Simmons book “Do You,” and I can say that some of the principles have carried over to my current job. I currently work for an upstart sports drink called BODYARMOR. It is more of an entrepreneurial experience rather than your typical corporate job. I have to be ready to work 24/7, 7 days a week. We launched the brand in Florida last October and we are basicially building it from the ground up. And this is something that I am really passionate about. Russell shared his experiences as an entrepreneur, and I can say that I can relate to a number of topics and his “mindset” shared in the book.
