Question for Hannah: What advice would you give to current students who want to work in the sport business industry?
Working in sports is a lifestyle and honestly, it’s not for everyone. There truly are a lot of long hours with low pay to justify it, so you have to love what you do and the environment you work in. Even with jobs in the sports realm, 40 hours a week are going to be normal office hours, filled with meetings, emails and phone calls. The sports aspects (games, tournaments, events) generally fall outside of that base workload, usually on nights and weekends, and are just additional hours you’re working. I think people have an idea that they’re going to work and spend their days watching football or baseball. I can’t speak for all companies, but I know for me that’s not true – there’s still a business that has to be run.
